Folate deficiency

Why food fortification works

Food fortification adds essential vitamins and minerals to staple foods during processing. Unlike supplementation, it reaches whole populations through foods already consumed every day — which is why the WHO recognises it as one of the most cost-effective public-health interventions.

Folic acid fortification
